Minutes/Report:
DATE: February 2, 2009 - Program Committee meeting
LOCATION: tele-conference
ATTENDEES: Pam Perry, Shelly Brimeyer, Mary Jo Smith, Anna Haug, Courtney
Samento, Chad Olson, Jennifer Schroeder, Joan Meyer, Gisella Baker,
Linda Schwinn
GUEST(S):
MINUTES STATUS:

Pam wishes to firm up the sessions and pencil them into a tentative
schedule in order to place the agenda on the web very soon. The
conference is only 6 weeks away. She hopes to put registration on
the web next week and is working with Tracey Havener to accomplish
that.

Pam though it would be beneficial to have Carolyn present at least
2 sessions at the conference. The evaluations Carolyn receives are
always favorable, and Pam has asked Tracey Havener to coordinate
these sessions for the committee.

There was discussion that perhaps Carolyn's sessions could follow
Dave Bartlett's general sessions. Carolyn would then be able to
concentrate on the details surrounding HEOA after Dave provides a
general overview. Dave could be placed early in the conference
schedule.

Several sessions are firming up already. Pam would like to give
Rick Shipman from MASFAA the opportunity to give an update. He is
arriving Wed. evening, so Pam is assuming he should be placed into
a Thurs. timeslot, giving him 10-15 minutes.

There was discussion as to the direction the Federal work study
session should take. Will it be a panel or each school
presenting? Ann Wessman at ISU and Cindy Seyfer at Iowa are slated
to present, with Ann being questionable since she might be out of
town. Other schools to check with are Buena Vista and Drake.
Shelly Brimeyer will follow up.

Discussion about the motivational speaker - possibly for lunch on
Thursday. Mary Jo Smith has been working with a speaker, "Life's Great Moments"
but his fee is $1500. Pam has been in touch with
Jackie through Wells Fargo, who would not charge the association.
Pam asked the question that, given the economic state of things,
should we spend the $1500 or pursue a free speaker? Chad has
reservations about spending the money, especially since we don't
have a clear picture about conference attendance and we must meet
the minimum room requirement of 80 total rooms. He has heard of
travel freezes being placed on a number of schools - community
colleges have already implemented. The committee agreed it would
be best to pursue the free speaker.

Non-standard terms session - how worthwhile will this be, since the
types of schools with this type of term will be able to attend?
Should we replace it with a session about the new requirements for
entrance and exit counseling?

Autism- Mary Jo Smith has been in contact with an autism expert &
will work with Matt Brown on coordinating a speaker, since Matt has
already been in contact with a local autism office about the
conference. We could perhaps put the speaker at dinner on Thursday
and have Matt's contact accept the check on Friday.

Meals- Joan Meyer is working hard to keep the cost under budget
with continental breakfasts & no food at breaks.

Pam then put the sessions into a tentative schedule. She will
forward to the committee when ready.
